Surgery
is an option: When simple day to day activities like
walking or climbing stairs become difficult to perform You
are forced to take regular pain killers (weekly or worse, daily) When
sleep discomfort and pain at rest starts . . . When chronic
inflammation and swelling occurs that doesn't improve with rest or
medications . . . When you become overweight because of reduced
walking, induced by pain in knees. . . When knee deformity
occurs-a bowing in or out of your knee
Is
Total Knee Replacement for you??? The decision should
be a cooperative one between you, your family, your family physician
and me. You should weigh the benefits of the surgery with respect to
the problems you are facing. Knee Replacement (Total or Partial)
does have a definitive and in most cases a complication free
outcome. The LCS Mobile Bearing Knee that I am using does have a
documented survival up to 25 years, because of its better design and
relative mobility between the components, and larger contact area
(1400 sq mm) as compared to Fixed Bearing (200 sq mm). This is the
most suitable implant for relatively younger, active and obese
patients. The gait pattern and mobility is far better in this type
of joint replacement as compared to the commonly used fixed bearing
joint implant.
