AN
OVERVIEW
 It
is our privilege to invite you to the Update on MIS &
Conservative Joint Replacement Surgery to be held at
Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi on October 2-3, 2004.
Lately, joint replacement surgery in India has ushered
into a new era. The major debate in the world of arthroplasty
today is on three subjects, the Resurfacing Arthroplasty which
is suitable for younger patients, Minimally Invasive Surgery and
Computer Assisted Surgery.
As the average age of
patients undergoing joint replacements is falling with every
passing year the world over, the importance of conserving bone
is becoming a core issue in the surgical strategy of managing
advanced arthritis. Combined with this are the consistently
increasing expectations of patients, compelling surgeons to
explore minimally invasive options. This has brought us to 'the
era of Conservative Joint Replacement surgery'. Conservative to
bone - surface replacement of hip, shoulder & elbow. The
knee is already a surface replacement! Conservative to soft
tissues--- minimally invasive surgical techniques [MIS].Hence we
have chosen the topics-Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR),
Minimally Invasive Hip & Knee Surgery (MIS), Uni
Compartmental Knee Replacement (MIS) and Upper limb joint
replacement surgery (Souter and Copeland).
In this
symposium our effort will be focussed on PRACTICE of
ARTHROPLASTY. The theme is "Conservative Joint
Replacement Surgery." The goal will be achieved by LIVE
SURGICAL DEMONSTRATIONS and case sessions apart from the
intensely focussed talks from the experts in the field,
discussing the topics thread bare.
